I thought I would let you guys all know about the Meet Me At Mikes Softies for Mirabel appeal (http://meetmeatmikes.blogspot.com/2008/04/softies-for-mirabel.html). It is starting early this year and it is a great project to participate in.
Meet Me At Mikes (http://meetmeatmikes.blogspot.com/) is a great shop in Fitzroy, Melbourne that supports local crafters and has a great mix of handmade and vintage in the store. Last year they decorated the window with over 100 handmade softie toys to donate to the children at the Mirabel Foundation (http://www.mirabelfoundation.com/).
Even if you have never made a soft toy before, don't let this think you can't participate, toys from all skill levels were made last year and I think this adds to making it special.
Also, if you work in a school or have children, you could get the kids involved. Last year I got my little sewing class to make some toys and took them along. The kids loved making them and the only sad thing was they were not wanting to part with them in the end. There is a flickr group (http://www.flickr.com/groups/softiesformirabel) showing images of all the toys, just to get an idea of what goes on. If you're interstate you can send one along as well.
