What a fantastic idea! I'm off to sign up now :) Do we send our prize donation at the same time as our tshirt?

I've been thinking of 'M' things. My partner was helpful (not), when asked about things starting with 'M', he suggested 'mmm'. As in, 'Mmm, donuts'.
So I've got nothing yet.
I think I'll submit a cute appliqued singlet top for the entry donation. Or I just realised.. the winner might not be the right size for it to fit. Bugger.
So basically I have gotten nowhere.
How are you all going with your ideas?
Emmarose
15-04-08, 08:26 PM
I was thinking along the lines of Mmmmm (as in the sound you make dissaprovingly)...... Move over Martha! Which was a little dig at Martha Stewart, but then I thought maybe that's a little too vague. I think I might 'bake' one of my cakes as my donation for entry. Normally I bake cakes for babies, but lately I have been experimenting with adult sized ones! Yummy, and absolutely diet friendly!
http://myweb.westnet.com.au/shelby2/redpattycake.jpg
Now back to more t-shirt ideas....
I keep changing my mind :p So yeah, much like yourself Heidiandseek, not really getting anywhere :) But it's keeping my mind ticking over that's for sure!
Love your cake Emmarose!

Silly question but do we send the t-shirt with the prize donation? or do we just send the prize donation and show a PHOTO of the t-shirt?
thelittleorchard
19-04-08, 07:40 AM
Yes I am wondering if we have to send Made It the t-shirt, cause what I thinking of doing I think I will cry to give it away!
I will hopefully make and send my prize this/next week.
I have a few ideas, but the M is prob the hardest! I am off to the second hand shop this week...The Zion Home for oldies has this really awesome second hand shop run by people at the home, there are so many bits of vintage lace, old zippers (tho I hate zippers), and bits of clothing that are really cheap...unlike places like vinnies etc which price their crap pretty high.
Hi Guys,
Just send the entry donation, will we decide what we are doing with the tees later.
If the M concept is too hard, then just do what you like. We thought you might have needed a starting point but if not be free.
Thanks
Made it - I sent an email to join the competition but have had no reply  Just checking that you received it, and of course, I need an address to send my prize to!
M - I've come up with a few thoughts - mice is my first, music, monsters, m & m's, moths, movies, monkeys, minky.
I thought a Mandala ( you know those coloring circle things0 would be cool, but the patterns are very intricate and I don't know how I could do it LOL!

Can anyone tell me if there is such a thing as fabric pens? Not to the old fashioned puff paint type ones, more just feltpen-type pens??? Of can you just use pigment pens? I am thinking of an idea for my t-shirt..... Oh, and can you use just use screen print paint with a paintbrush? Or is there a better method? I want to 'paint' my shirt, but I don't want it to go hard and crusty when the paint is dry.... any suggestions?
annalaura
22-04-08, 10:29 AM
You can paint with screenprinting ink, but it will be thicker. It shouldn't go crusty, but depending on the t-shirt and how stretchy it is it could crack. You could add some textile medium to it (Jo Sonjas makes it, I got it in an art supply shop, but Spotters might also do it as well) to "water" it down a bit do it isn't so thick.
thelittleorchard
22-04-08, 12:00 PM
I got this paint from Spotlight (Anna were you refering to Spotters as spolight, haha, I generally call it spotty...) its calls Jones Tones, it was in the craft section with paper crafts etc. It says on it, fabric, crafts, paper and the nozzles is very fine, but one would need a steady hand to ensure it applies straight, and good control of pressure you apply.
I'm sure there are clothing pens, but they are more for writing on labels etc.
As for screen printing paint, I use permaset and it doesnt go crusty. I have seen the Jo Sonja brand at spotlight, but dont recall if they had the medium to make acrylics suitable for fabric/washing...but this site will have it.
www.artmaterials.com.au
I have a theme and title for my shirt...woo...It will be made of mostly second stuff I grabbed today.
Just gotta figure out what my prize donation will be.

So the fact that we are sending a photo of our t shirts means that I can make it any size I want, is that right? I could do a baby or toddler size t shirt?
Emmarose
25-04-08, 09:30 PM
Yes Amanda, it can be for a little one.... that would be cute to see some kiddy sized entries!

My shirt got chopped up today, and I really like the result.
Now I just have to do the embellishments and the painting.
and I will post off my prize tomorrow.

I think I might have to sit out of this competition. I've got WAY too much going on at the moment with Uni and won't have time to make up a prize or T-shirt. Good luck to those participating!
Emmarose
06-05-08, 09:21 PM
I have a feeling this comp has lost momentum? Is there many participating? Even my enthusiasm has been dampended somewhat!
I am sad to report that I am pulling out of the comp. I just don't have any spare time! Between setting up my sew site and planning my daughters deb ball I am exhausted! :(

07-05-08, 07:35 AM
Thanks for the email Bec.
Mine is coming along...I have most of the embellishments done, just got 1 or 2 more to finish today, then I will apply them all when I get back.
I will see what I can do about getting some photos today sometime...
Bec said 10, but then Buggz (who was here earlier than me...usurper...:p) has pulled out, so 9...its still something, and you know 9 is the perfect number to have all the entries on the front page ;)

The deadline is the 30th of May.

I finally got my prizes sent off and I have sort of started the t-shirt. It will be done in time, still got almost 2 weeks left to get it done. Mine is almost done, should be by today. I was doing some work on it earlier and my bobbin finished, so I decided it was time to leave the machine for the morning and do something else.
And yes when its done what should we do...take pics and add to photobucket then add to here, or add to flickr and send links...
If all goes well I should be able to get it visible by early next week.
bottledupemotions
23-05-08, 11:47 AM
I'm on track, so I should finish it by early next week as well. But if majority of people want an extention, I certainly won't be complaining. :)

Mine is half done. I'm curious to see what others are doing. Mine is hand stitched. Hopefully it will be done in time, I'm working on it each night. I don't think I need an extension as yet.
I'm guessing you will show us where to upload the photos in a few days time, maybe there could be a flickr group set up for it?? We have one specifically for our polymer clay challenges on Etsy each month.

Hey guys! Bec mentioned in an email to me about putting the photos on the Madeit Blog, and possibly on the comp page of the Madeit site. Perhaps we should just email her the jpg's (photos) and let her upload them???? At least then she will have copies, even if she changes her mind.....
Yes, that's right please send through your image. I won't change my mind, the blog and competition page will look great with your designs.

Hey guys I am pretty sure LittleOrchard is in this competition too.
Everyone's shirts look fantastic.
By the way, this is my blurb for my shirt Bec:
My shirt was designed on a small size SUPRE t-shirt, which fits my 7 year old, as does it fit an adult (sz 8 - 10). I used machine and hand-stiching in blanket stich to applique my design on to the shirt. I also used machine embroidery for the rose effect on the mannequin figure. It's loosley translated theme, represents 'M' for model, the circles representing beams of light focused on a girly figure at the front.... I did say loosely (didn't I?)
Part of this project for me, was to reinforce to my 7 year old, that not all cool clothes need to be bought straight from the shops. We chose a perfectly pristene 'hand-me-down' shirt, that was plain and boring and created a unique one-off piece that stands out and reflects an important choice to; reduce, reuse and recycle.
My 7 yo (Shelby) and I are chuffed with the result!
