Now that my shop is plodding along, and the children are somewhat content on school holidays, I really want to draw and paint. But I have painter's block! I am terrified of blank paper at the moment..... Any suggestions?!?!?!?

Don't get scared, just start drawing and drawing. Do some of the Drawing on The Right Side of The Brain techniques like blind contour drawings to get going. Draw for 1-2 hours a day over and over and your technique will improve and you will start to get ideas that you can use. Drawing is like any other skill, the more you do the better you get.

I don't draw or paint, I do digital stuff. However, I keep a little notebook and pen handy and I write down things I hear or read that strike a chord. Could be just a word or sentence or phrase. Then I just let it roll around my head for a day or so and then something usually tries to get out of my head. Sometimes it might stay in there for months, then when the time is right it evolves. So I think the idea is to not think too hard about it, just let it happen.

Isn't that always the way! When I have the time or something needs to get done it is so hard to get started. When I don't have the opportunity to paint I have so many ideas and I am just itching to get started.

From talking to other artists I get the feeling this is quite common:rolleyes: All the best with unblocking your block:p
