I received an email from a person stating that they own a shop and would like to stock my products in their shop... WOW I thought.. how exciting and we then exchanged quite a few emails and was going to send a few (about 10) of my products as sample before he placed his order as it was interstate. Now as I was not going to get any money as samples until order was placed I wanted to ensure I was not being led up the garden path.. on my last email I decided to ask a few more q's about his shop etc.. and guess what I have not received a response since then..
so hence I have not sent anything yet as the first few emails gave responses straight away..
has anyone else been approached and what is the best way of doing something in this situation ?
thanks!
Hi Kylie,
I was approached from a guy in Perth stating he wanted to stock some of my stuff. I asked him about his shop and he said it wasn't opened yet. I will wait until I can see evidence of this shop by way of a website or yellow pages listing. Any reputable shop should have a website nowadays, even if it is a blog.
I wouldn't send anything until you have evidence of a shop!

An ABN is always a good one to ask for as well, as nobody will open a shop without one and you can look it up to check that it is for real.
It is good you didn't send the items until you got payment, I think that is really important.

This happened to me as well. Except mine was a girl from QLD who found my products on madeit and wanted to stock some of the items.
The emails went back and forth for nearly a month and when it came to paying, didn't hear anything from her again.
I asked for her ABN and she always diverted the question. I googled her store and it was legit... and the only website she gave me was the myspace page for the store.
I just wonder why people go through all this trouble to scam independent sellers?

Wow, that's so scary... Yeah, never ever send items out until you know it's legit. Even try to talk to them on the phone if you can just to make sure you have all the details. And make sure you state that your policy is money first then postage (unless you know for sure it's a reliable, reputable store that has other independent labels you recognise in there, in which case you probably don't have to be AS strict).

Just to update you.. I have not received a reply for 3 days from him now.. so can only assume he was wanting them for himself for free and using the shop as a "decoy"..
If anyone is approached by someone the same pls email me and am happy to provide you with the name of who my guy was.. don't feel I need to publish it all to read though!.
thanks again.

on the contrary Kylie, perhaps putting his name here might deter him from trying to scam other madeit sellers. Then he knows we're onto him!
Hi Kylie,
madeit would love to know who this person is as well? If you could email madeit (sales@madeit.com.au) that would be great.
We can search the database of emails that were sent through the website and see if any other sellers have been emailed. Usually shop owners send to a few sellers. We would then send out an email to all those sellers in regards to this person.
Thanks
Bec
email address is a better idea, i would not give my real name if I was scamming you and would probably change it for each time I tried... not that I would do that.
