I'm chasing a bit of advice. Most of my items (so far) fit into a box and weigh under
500g thereby costing a set amount to anywhere in Australia. What do I do when the item has to go in a bigger box which then pushes the weight over 500g and the parcel is then charged by the postcode it is being sent to (hope that makes sense)? Do I just pick a set amount for postage and stick with that whether it is over or under what the actual postage price might be? Or do you request the buyer's postcode, get a quote for postage and do it that way (like on Ebay)? And how do I specify that on my Made It item listing? Thanks to everyone in advance.

Hello Fluffy stuff. I have been pondering that myself. I went to my local post office and was given a booklet called "post charges 4 July 2011".
It includes a table of post codes and their 'zones'. ( this is a QLD version ) and the cost of different weighted parcels to each zone.. I was thinking of having that table on my site, so customers can check out the costings themselves before ordering. Or maybe you could just have an average postage cost for all customers based on these figures. Hope this helps. good luck. Jenny

Prepaid satchels are a godsend! You will always know how much to charge for postage, which makes listing so much easier.

You can now buy prepaid satchels and boxes on ebay and use Oz Posts Click and Send feature.

I've been using the eBay flat rate satchels since they first came out months ago and not one has ever gone missing - they're cheaper, include tracking and very convenient (I just pop them in the nearest red box) ... love 'em :)

Hi Ladies,

I have been wondering about the eBay flat rate satchels, because they seem cheaper & more convenient.

However I thought they were only to be used with sending items on eBay!
So you can use them for sending sold Madeit items too?

I just had a look at the link, Narelle, and although Australia Post calls them "Australia Post/eBay" satchels, it doesn't say anything in the fine print about them being used only for eBay sales.

It does say "This offer is exclusive to eBay members" (http://shop.auspost.com.au/shop/flat-rate-satchels), but that's in the heading, not actually in the Terms and Conditions.

If your items are only being sent to Melbourne it is a flat rate of 8.35 for anything up to 20 kilos. If you are sending to other states or countries postage generally goes up for every 250 grams. If you go to the Austalia Post website they have a postage calculate where you can enter weight and dimemsions of the item you are sending and it will give you an estimate on the price. Hope this helps.
