MadeIt has been fantastic, but I'm thinking about giving the local market scene a try as well. I'm wondering what markets people have had success at with handmade products.

I'm in Sydney, but I'm keeping the topic open to all of Australia because I think it might be interesting for others as well!

Hi Amy,

I love your stuff! I think it would be a hit at markets.

I'm in Sydney too and am thinking about which markets to try. I think that Paddington looks the best for me as it has more of a focus on art and design and doesn't seem to have the discount vibe some markets have.

If you live in Bondi you should maybe give those markets a go...they always seem busy and it's good to get it with the local community.

Good luck!

Hey there,

You should apply for Finders Keepers (old Hope St), its a good bench mark to get going.

Bondi is hard to get into and Paddington you have to apply too and have an interview if you are successful to stage 2 then have 12 months to do the markets there.

Powerhouse Youngbloods do a kids market which you would be great for too.

Then there is Orange Grove in Sydney, Balmain, Rozelle and heaps of other opportunities.

Hope that helps!

Hi Amy,

How is your market going? Will you be participating in the Finders Keepers? Anyone else doing it?

We will, do pop in and say hi if you are around.

I have heard that the Rocks has a new designers section now. Perhaps something to look into?

Cheers,

Wynona

Thank you so much 0049 Design! Thats really sweet of you to say so. We will try and pop over to your stall and say hi! Must find out about the youngbloods one now...or I might wait for the children's one.

I'm thinking about doing a market but I was wondering if you had to accept credit/eftpos. I've heard this increases sales. Is this true?
And if so how do you go about having that at your stall?
Has anyone done this, or have any ideas?

hi all, Finders Keepers was fantastic! We highly reccommend it! We would have received more sales if we had eftpos facilities, but you have to weigh up the costs. Contact your bank and ask about merchant facilities. I think there is another company that offers mobile eftpos machines, can't remember what they are called but a quick search on google would bring it up I am sure.

Hi 0049 Design - sorry we didn't get to chat more! It was manic.

Craft Victoria are running a market on the 13th of december from 11am-4pm and another one in january. It is at the city library in flinders lane, Melbourne. I do not know if you can still register for the january market but if you can and you are a new designer then you should go for it.

My partner is having a stall at the december one so I can let anyone who is interested know how it goes.
