You can create something in powerpoint by adding images and text in a band across the piece, its mighty fiddly tho...
Then take a screenie (the prtscn/sysrq key), open up Paint and go to edit then paste, your screenie will appear....
Then save a jpeg and open up the screenie up in whatever image software you have...
The cut out your banner...i use irfanview and it has a crop image thing.
Then put it into madeit...we are lucky that madeit is quite flexible with its banner stuff.
I just did the screenie of my old banner on the original madeit, lazy I know but I could not be stuffed fiddling in powerpoint at the moment. I just used one of my images as the logo for now. I will prob talk to my partner about creating some sort of awesome banner for me.
Or maybe do a trade with an awesome banner maker.
Hi Samm,
I dont know if you created your banner yet?
I've been meaning to try and create a banner as well but Im completely useless when it comes to technical computer stuff.
I have found this site today and have had a muck around on it and it was easy to use. It's all free and they have templates to choose from or you can upload your own images to it.

Im going to have a bit more of a play around on it in the hope I can create something fabulous for my shop. I ended up doing a quick rush job for the new madeit site and photographed a piece of un-ironed fabric which looks terrible!

i just took a photo that i really liked and stretched and cropped it on 'paint' and then added some text. its pretty basic, but exactly what i wanted.
Hi, I created a Photoshop document 335mm wide by 44mm high with Resolution 72dpi (pixels/inch). I just placed 2 of my images into the document typed some text and saved a .jpg file. Hope that helps ... Goodluck!!! Michelle :)

I found a royalty free image to go with my store's name, cropped and pasted it a couple of times as background and then added text using Illustrator. It was a lot of fun. :)

There are quite a few good free programs around.
I like Photoscape for easy editing:

And I used Picnik to create my logos:
