Anyone interested in participating in a Melbourne-based swap?
We could have a theme... suggestions welcome!
Kerry
[EDIT] Let's do an 'All over Australia' swap instead! I just realised we're excluding so many awesome people! Sorry!

Hi!
I think thats a great idea but sadly i live on the gold coast :(
Maybe we could have one all over Australia... n you know send the package to the person. I'd be interested in that!!!
*tears* nothing like that ever happens on the Gold Coast :(
Is that a good idea or will it be too hard?
Thanks,
Samm

Great idea! I'm sorry, I should have posted "Australia", now other people in other states will feel excluded when they read the title!
I'll try and edit it, but I don't think I'll be able to!
But yes, all are welcome! We could do a meet up for people in the same state to swap items, and then other people outside of the state could either do their own with people in their state or have things posted out! Wonderful idea, thanks Samm!

I edited the original post, but can't change the title :(
Any cool mods around? ;)

Fabulous! We'll try and get at least 6 people to participate (or as many as we get in about a month), and then we'll go ahead and pick a theme/date.

Even though I have never participated in a 'swap' before.... I'm in. Will need detailed instructions though so I do good!

Don't worry, I'm a swap "beginner" too... but it's not too difficult. We'll pick a theme (feel free to make suggestions), and then allocate partners, and you make someting small for each other and "swap" it via post or meet-up. Very simple, and loads of fun... plus you get to meet other cool people and be introduced to their crafts! Bonus!

I will have to swap via post as I'm so far away.... I'm really eager to try my hand at making badges (annalaura's got me started) so that's my idea for the swap.:)

Yer i agree a badge swap would b awesome! :D
Hi there creative people.
Great to see a swap is going to happen. Let me know if you need any help from madeit admin. We would be happy to help out in anyway.
We have been contacted by a swap meet in Melbourne. Check out our blog (http://madeitblog.blogspot.com/2008/01/for-better-or-purse-swap.html) for more info. They have a point system not sure if we can do this on madeit but it's worth a thought or two.
Thanks

Oh, thanks for the heads-up admin! And I'm glad to see so many enthusiastic participants!
Okay, so does anyone have any suggestions for themes while we wait for more people to join us? :)
thelittleorchard
14-01-08, 08:43 PM
I'll join in too...
theme??? hmmn...something that is open to interpretation so you have no idea what you will get? Something like "yummy" as a theme, or item has to include a button in some way?
Emmarose
14-01-08, 09:24 PM
Ooooh 'yummy' is good.... You've got me ticking.... how about 'coffee' COFFEE is yummy! Sorry just posted my blog and coffee seems to be all I can think about today....
boxofglory
14-01-08, 11:15 PM
Ohhh, I like that suggestion!
thelittleorchard
18-01-08, 08:25 PM
not so much a fan of coffee...but I imagine I could do something based on it as a general theme.
boxofglory
19-01-08, 01:31 AM
I like the Yummy suggestion, I think that's what EmmaRose was saying... that coffee is yummy, not as a separate theme...
Here are some I thought of today:
-Secret Garden
-Summer
-Cupcakes
-Film
-Australia (and this one can be anything remotely related to Australia!)
Feel free to add opinions on any of the above themes, or add other suggestions to the list!
Emmarose
19-01-08, 08:26 AM
Yes I was saying that 'yummy' was a great theme. It leaves alot to interpretation. My new suggestion is to make a badge based on your username/madeit shop name, create a badge that symbolises who you are. So my challenge would be to make a badge representing what 'Emmarose' is all about.....does that make sense?
thelittleorchard
20-01-08, 04:32 PM
I think A badge related to you is a great idea. Its like promoting your shop to whoever you are swapping with, and they are so versatile that really each person could do anything.
boxofglory
21-01-08, 12:43 AM
Not everyone has badge-makers though.... it might be a bit restrictive.
Emmarose
21-01-08, 08:37 AM
I think of a badge as being a piece of wearable art that pins onto something. Whether it's a traditional plastic badge, one made from acrylics or clays, felt and fabric, plastics, beads, macaroni etc etc. That's why it would make a great swap, each of us could make a badge/broach using the materials that we are familiar with. So my badge construction will be made mostly of fabrics and felts to represent Emmarose.... Boxofglory this is your swap though, and even though I am suggesting ideas, I am happy to go with the flow:)

I have little whatsa ma callits...bar pin backs, cause I dont make "traditional" badges.
By the way a great jewellery, beads etc supplier is www.polymerclay.com.au
I have been ordering off there for ages and everything always comes well packaged and arrives. I also was after some particlar items and about 2 weeks after I asked about them they became available.
Ummn...but yeah I guess not everyone has badge makers, badge backs etc...
I guess more of a general theme is needed. I am happy with anything you guys choose.

My suggestions for the day :)
- a colour: so say its green you might want to make a frog toy??!!
- fairy tales
- animals
Hope you like :)

Hi i was thinking of more suggestions :)
- Something to do with valentines day
- an amount: so like 3 and your package has to have three handmade items in it.(whatever you want to put in it.)hope that makes sense :)

Ahhh, yes, that sounds awesome actually... I thought you meant a plastic badge that you need a thingy for :P
That could be really versatile.... I like.
And, thelittleorchid, I love Over The Rainbow... I bought some shrink plastic from Heather a few weeks ago, it's fab :)

I'm glad you like my suggestion.... I can't wait to decide on theme and get started! I wonder how many official swappers we have sofar?
boxofglory
21-01-08, 11:37 PM
We have 6 people in so far... should we start? Do you think it's enough people?
I like your badge theme Emmarose, if everyone else likes it, I'm happy to go with that :)
What is the best way for us to allocate partners?
Emmarose
22-01-08, 08:25 AM
I have read about others swaps, and some seem to allocate partners simply by 'chucking names in a hat' and dealing them out that way. Once we know who's swapping with who though, I will have to send a private email to my partner to swap mailing address as I will have to post. (Unless by some insane miracle there is someone else who lives in Rockhampton, Queensland!) I am happy to start now, and I hope it turns out to be the first of many!

Excellent on badges...i'm working on a few different ones right now.
well I am in Brisbane...Though I dont think it matters sending parcels to ppl in the same state as cost seems to be the same anyhows.
Though if people are in the same city they may like to meet for their swap.
boxofglory
22-01-08, 01:33 PM
I just re-counted and we actually have SEVEN people including me, so we either need one more participant or we could have a group of 3 people, but that would mean making two items, which I don't mind doing, but other's might be more strapped for time... so if anyone else wants to be in the group of 3, let me know, otherwise we can wait till we get one more person?
Here's the list of participants so far:
boxofglory
Emmarose
thelittleorchard

Feel free to start on your respective projects in the meantime. We'll set a date for having the items posted by.
I'll pick names out of a hat when we get the numbers finalised and post it here as well as send private messages to make sure everyone is still in.
Cool?

So i'm confused is the theme a badge/pin/brooch of your choice or is it supposed to promote your shop? Sorry i'm a bit slow... :D
boxofglory
23-01-08, 11:26 AM
Um, you can do it to promote your shop if you want to, mine will be loosely related... I don't mind either way... it doesn't have to be too strict :)

Has everyone seen Mydogzac's post about starting a 'care package' swap? Sounds nifty too!
Emmarose
31-01-08, 04:07 PM
Oh by the way, the Forumguy seems interested in advertising the Forum side of things on Madeit - to get more members, so maybe we should approach admin about showing off our badge photos on Madeit itself? This would work as a little cross advertising also, and maybe generate a little more interest to the forum?

I'll create a flickr group so we can post photos once everyone has received their badges/brooches.

I'm getting there, slowly. Will I be persecuted if I run a tiny bit late?? Aiming for Wednesday and I have the best of intentions, but I'm a school teacher and the new year just started and its hectic! Excuses I know (trust me - I hear HEAPS of excuses for late artworks and they are usually always lame!!) so I will do my very best to be posted by Wednesday. Hang in there with me Little O, I WILL post it this week:):)

I received my nadge yesterday...Unfortunately it was completely destroyed. Marisa, dont worry, I dont think it was your packaging or anything you did as it was really well wrapped. The whole thing looked like it had been stepped on or something, it was completely shattered and the brooch back was just flattened out.
Ahh well, silly mail...no worries I had fun making mine and sending them off and that is the main part.
